Free Guide on How to Shop on eBay

eBay is one of the most popular shopping websites where individuals and businesses can buy and sell new or used items.

There are two main ways to buy from eBay: either via an auction where individuals can place bids and the highest bidder wins or using “buy it now” where a price has been set for the item you wish to purchase and you buy in the same way you buy from any other online store. Majority of us are not fully familiar on how to buy items from eBay and have them delivered to you here in Nigeria.  This guide will show you how to shop from eBay, either by bidding in an online auction or by buying at a fixed price and also how you can get your items delivered to your doorstep in Nigeria.

Step-by-step process on how to buy on eBay

Step 1

1.1 Sign up

If you don’t have an account yet on eBay sign up with the following link join eBay now, since you need to have an account before you can become a buyer.

1.3 Filtering your search result

After clicking on the search bar you will be shown a list of items that matches your criteria. You can also choose to display items in various ways including filtering them as Auction or Buy it now.

When you filter by auction, next to the image and name is information telling you the number of existing bids and the highest bid, also in the final column you can find the amount of time left before the auction ends or the product is removed. For example the image bellows shows a sneaker on auction having 4 bids with 13 hours 43minutes left before the bid ends. The listing also shows if the item is new or has been used (Pre owned)

An auction listing showing the number of bids, day the bid ends and also the status of the item being pre-owned {used}

1.4 Placing a Bid

If you want to participate in an auction, you need to enter the maximum amount you are prepared to pay in the box provided, and click the “Place bid” button.

Note: If the current bid is $3.25 and you are willing to pay $4.20, type in C $4.20 where you need to enter you bid. Avoid placing bids with obvious prices like $4 and try obscure bids such as $4.20 to give you a better chance of winning the auction.

How to enter a bid

When you’re asked to confirm your bid, click on the “confirm bid” button. If you are a new user on eBay then you will be asked to confirm your address details and to provide a mobile number for verification purposes.

Note: The automated US warehouse address Shoptomydoor assigns to you should be used here as your delivery address, as it enables us deliver your item to your doorstep in Nigeria.

1.5 Buying at a fixed price

This does not require you placing a bid if you are okay with the price of the item simply click on the “Buy it now” button.  If you are a new user on eBay then you will be asked to confirm your address details and to provide a mobile number for verification purposes.

A new page will open asking you to review your purchase. The total cost you will see includes any postage and packaging cost, if you are okay with the price, click on the “Continue” button.

Note: You will be asked to type in your payment details. eBay uses PayPal an intermediary – you pay PayPal and PayPal passes on the payment, to prevent sellers from seeing your bank details. If you already have a PayPal account, you can just login to make the payment. For more information on how to use PayPal, click on the following link “How to use PayPal
